Evaluation

  1. Evaluation of peer assessment and self-assessment.  Produce an evaluation to include the above feedback as well as your own assessment. Use the following structure:

  • The intended purpose and meaning / atmosphere. Did you achieve these?
  • Choices made during production
  • What worked well, drawing on specific examples from the edit, style and editing techniques? Use feedback as well as your own ideas
  • Areas for improvement. Use feedback as well as your own ideas

Areas for development

As a group we produced a music video for the song “treat me like somebody” by tink, our storyline for this  was to base on real life events such as heartbreak and emotion, when it came to choosing the song it wasn’t easy due to the fact we had to change the song from “too good” by Drake to our current song “treat me like somebody “because of the fact some our actors were unreliable in the beginning of the filming process for example they didn’t know the lyrics or the structure of the song  , so on that note we had to  change the song and find  more of a reliable choice in terms acting and actually knowing the lyrics. Which actually turned out to be a much better choice because it looked more like a music video. To make our music video a success we actually assigned roles to one another so for example I was doing the camera work , Guled and precious were the directors and I was the editor.

When it came to filming so the production side, we had to think in terms of what would work well for our actor so we kept it simple, and we tried to create the same vibe and atmosphere portrayed in the song, so we got our actor to sing to the camera and we also captured a few visually (establishing shots), in terms of all shots we used close ups, mid shots and long shots during our filming process. To create a fast cutting rate even though the song is quite slow, we kept cutting to different shots when we was editing we wanted to create an authentic atmosphere by doing so when it came to editing we used a few different transitions such as fade to black, dissolve, colour change to black and white, wipe, slide and zoom, we also added another fade at the end to the music it add dramatic tension.

I think what went really well during the making of the music video, is the fact that we worked well as a team and the video footage we had captured went very well with the music, it was like we was telling a story, another thing that went especially well is the editing, because I actually enjoyed editing and playing around with different transitions and effects the reason I believe editing went quite well is due to the fact when we played our rough cut music video to the class we received feedback from our class peers . Some of the responses Zehra:” The music video was very good, I practically liked the transitions made at the end where it like time was jumping a head “ David :”  I thought overall it was a very good music video , I particularly liked the ending where the name “ PGP productions” comes up and fades towards the end “ Glennis : “ I liked the editing in the music video it was very good , I also liked the ending “ so overall the peers from our classed enjoyed the music video and thought it was very good , one thing we had to address was the fact that the Lip   syncing was a bit off because when I exported the video the audio shifted so the music was a head of the video.

We also received feedback from our teacher Vanessa “it has potential of being a good music video, just need to make some minor adjustments such as having a faster cutting rate and too fix the audio so that it’s in time with the lip syncing “so as a group we took that vital feedback on board and I made some improvements to the music video, and we showed her she said it’s much better. I believe there is still room for improvement for example we could of taken more time with the filming, make the music video perfection also we could of planned it much better , and it made more like a music video , and made it live up to the potential of the song .

When it came to the editing stage we had to consider what a music looks like so we had to incorporate different editing styles and techniques so for example at the beginning I didn’t immediately add the music I played a clip to start off with so the tension slowly build during the music video.

To conclude my evaluation overall I think we made quite a good music video and we produced a good quality version of an edited music considering the timeframe we was given, we did a quite good job , and overall I quite enjoyed doing it , especially the filming and editing process .
