Evaluation
What were the aims of the brief from your chosen charity / campaign

And did you achieve them

Our aim was to create an anti-bullying campaign video based on our chosen charity called “ditch the label”, we wanted to portray to the audience that bullying is wrong and can have life threating consequences, in my opinion we had achieved what we strived to do which was to create an effective anti-bullying campaign video. We implicated a help line at the end and several statistics and facts so that people have a way of dealing with the bullying. Our chosen charity provided help towards anyone who suffered from any form of bullying and we took aspects from the charity and used concepts of it in the video. Our original ideas were to create a typical bullying story but we decided to change these ideas, we wanted to make it authentic and we didn’t want to have any legal issues involved we wanted to make the campaign suitable to everyone, we didn’t want to offend any people, how are ideas developed through the project by using combining ideas to create our final idea , using different locations and settings , we even implicated sound to make it more effective and so that people got the idea and concept.
How well did you plan out short film? Evaluate strengths and weaknesses

Some of our strengthens would have to be our pre-production because we had our storyboard planned and drawn up so we knew exactly what we was going to film and who was going to film, and also our group was organised and we had everything set out, we even got permission to film in certain areas such as Stratford and the area near the sports hall. A weakness was our organisation because we had a story and concept but it took us a while to get organised and actually start filming something, also another weakness was when we was editing we didn’t add our charity logo or any information related to what our campaign was based on towards the end but on the other hand we did add a contract number and some statistics and facts related to anti bullying which is a strength in my opinion. In terms of planning skills we were on top of everything which is a skill to have when working a team.

General feedback from member of the class (recorded but then typed in words )

David: He said he likes how the music in the background corresponded with the theme of the campaign video, he also said he liked how the whole thing was filmed throughout and different shots used to make look authentic, and also he said he likes what the story is about anti bullying. He didn’t give any improvements, he just said overall it was very well thought through and planned. Kady: She also said that she liked all the different shots and angles such as the close ups and mid shots used to create a contrast also technical codes. Reece: He said he enjoy the whole thing but improvements could be made to the end in terms of our charity logo showing at the end would of made it more clear who we are campaigning for , but he also said he likes the shots that were used and how the whole thing was edited in terms of structure . Zahra: She liked the editing also but in particular, the way it was cut and put in order like it was almost telling a story she also said it was very good. Another additional comment would be when David: said he like when the slow motion bit was added. He also pick up on a physical error which was when Greta (actor) dropped the bag and books , another shot was added at the wrong time afterwards which was something our group picked on when we watched it back .

What were the strengths and weaknesses during filming ?
I think our strengths during filming was that we know what we was filming , we used hand held shots and the tripod equally , also that we just got on with the task instead of wasting time we just knew who was doing the filming who was acting and who was directing , another strength would be that we had no out of focus shots included in our filming process , we also took more than more shot of everything so that we had a choice of which was best suited to fit our brief , on the other hand during filming we did struggle with shooting at a low angle we actually had to place the camera on the floor to get the best possible shot , it took a very long time for us to actually to complete this which actually was time waster for us because we wanted to make the shot perfect. Another weakness would be our communication skills during filming such as talking during because then it made our job harder because then we had to edit out the sound completely and put an audio file , but overall in terms of filming our group was pretty good because we ended up having a complete campaign video.
Which editing skills did you develop and how could you improve in this area?
During the time we had to edit , we discover new abilities such as a fade out tool and fade to black tool , we also learned how to add audio which was actually a struggle for us because we actually had no idea how to do this so it was defiantly a new skill we picked up , we also learned how to make the moving image go in slow motion which was the trademark for our video because its empathised it even more. Another skill we learned was how to add text to the moving image and make it into a transitions between slides another thing was timing we had to pan out each fade so that it looks in time when played back . I think with editing as group we could of all contributed something instead of one person doing it all , another thing we could of improved is the way in which it was all structured like the footage could of been used better , when it came to arranging and putting it in order.

    Comments

    1. A detailed evaluation and I feel you are realistic with the strengths and weaknesses of the process, from planning through to editing. You include useful audience feedback and you think about choices made, and how you've fulfilled the brief. There are a couple of minor proof reading issues. Vanessa
